WESTERN TAIERI DRAINAGE BOARD.

The last meeting of the board as at present constituted was held on Friday; present —Messrs J. T. Gibson (chairman), W. Thomson, James Miller, G. Campbell, and D. Doull. CORRESPONDENCE. Mr Thomas Thomson, Maungatua, wrote stating that a dam had been erected on Mr William Thomson’s (his neighbour’s) property lately, and he wished it removed, to allow water to go down to its own level, lie also asked that the ditch which ran through hie property from the lagoon to the Lee Creek be cleaned out, and also an outlet to Otokia road.—The first request was referred to the engineer, and the reply to the others was to the effect that the board did not intend to create any drainage towards Lee Creek, but that the outlet referred to would receive attention Mr Arthur Grant, on behalf of the West Taieri Presbyterian Church, applied for compensation at the rate of £4O per aero for land taken in the formation of the contour channel through the church glebe, and also that a bridge be put across the channel.--The engineer reported that there was 9-10ths of an acre. The other part of the property adjoining would receive a direct benefit from this part of the work.—-Left in Mr Miller’s hands to make inquiries. John Reid and Sons, as agents for Wm. Shand’s trustees, wrote suggesting that a licensed surveyor bo arranged with to make a survey of the lands required by the board for contour channel, and the trustees would then consider the amount of compensation required. —To be informed that the board did not desire a transfer, that the board’s engineer was capable of doing any surveying necessary, and that they would treat with the writers in the matter of compensation after the survey had been made. GENERAL. Accounts amounting to £377 5s lid were parsed for payment. Mr Miller reported an interview regarding water supply at Mrs Hecnan’s, Maungatua,—Resolved to supply pipes if applicant would do the work. The engineer reported that during tho month the dam across Leo Creek outlet had been completed, and _ the culvert connecting tho Lee Creek with new drain to pumping station was finished. Outlet boxes had been put on several pipes entering tho lower contour channel, and the banking of some of the crooks entering the contour channel had been improved. Several testa of the new motor and scoop wheel had been made, and had proved satisfactory. Repairs had been carried out on the river embankment between Outram and Allanton. Owing to the heavy rain on the 6th and 14th inst., and the subsequent broken weather, little progress had been made with the contract on upper contour channel and Wylie’s Creek diversion. The principal work yet to be done was the enlarging of an existing crook, about 18 chains in length, about 14C0 cubic yards of earthwork at the upper end, and the erection of five largo culverts. —Adopted.
