MELBOURNE TRAGEDY

MELBOURNE, October 22. The bodies of a young man and a young woman, who have not been identified, Wore to-day discovered in a bedroom in Whitehall Chambers, where they had been resident for some weeks. They had not been seen for some days, and an unpleasant odor led to the forcing of the door and the discovery of the bodies. A feature is that the body of the woman was badly Recomposed, she having apparently been Read for a week, while the man had been Read for only a couple of days. A glass at the bedside contained dregs, supposed to be poison. They had registered as Mr and Mrs Harvey, but the man’s clothes, bearing Penffi tags, were marked with the initials “A. E. G.” October 23. In connection with the tragedy in Whitehall Chambers, where the bodies of a young man and young woman were found, the detectives have discovered a Perth savings bank book in the name of Albert Edward Glenwood, which corresponds with the initials on the man’s clothing. PERTH, October 23. Greenwood, an Englishman, recently employed in the State Audit Office, left saying that he had obtained a better position on the goldfields. He was a talented but eccentric man addicted to the use of drugs. The woman is believed to have been also employed in the same office. The spelling of the man’s name differs in the two cablegrams. The spellings have been retained, there being nothing to show which is the correct one. October 25 Miss Lottie Williams, employed in the Audit Office, obtained a month’s Heave of absence about the same time as Gronwood, and left by an eastward-bound steamer.
