OTAGO REINFORCEMENTS
The following non-commissioned officers proceeded to Trentham by the second express on Monday to join the infantry section of the Tenth Reinforcements; John Herbert I’ctor Brady. Colin Henry Fyffc. George William M'Lood Irvine. Nathaniel Malcolm. Joseph Cowie Nichols. Eleven infantrymen and throe mounted men came through from the south in the first express, and joined the second express for the north. These men arc for the Eleventh Reinforcements. Seventy-four infantrymen are required by the 23th" inst. to complete the Ninth Reinforcements. LEAVING NEXT FRIDAY. Some 74 infantry and eight mounted men aro required to leave Dunedin for the training camp on Friday, Those not desiring a long wait now have the, opportunity to go almost at once. This number is requirad at once in order to fill up the shortage of last week. If men able to go will at once
enlist they can bo examined the same evening at the Kensington Drill Hall. RECRUITING IN AUCKLAND, A record was established at the Auckland recruiting office on the 19th inst. ’I he enlistments totalled 150. Of 100 men examined by the doctors up till lunch time only five wore rejected. The recruits included many prominent athletes, and several representative Rugby and Association footballers. In the afternoon 400 men left as tlie second quota of the Ninth Reinforcements. When the roll was called on Wednesday morning, only 30 failed to respond, and the shortage was made up from those waiting. The district now has nearly 900 men in hand towards the quota of the Tont h Reinforceinonts. ARRIVAL OF NIUE ISLANDERS. AUCKLAND, October 20. One hundred and fifty Niue Islanders arrived by the To Anan to join the Second Maori Reinforcements. The men are in charge of Dr Pomarc.
