CIVIL SERVANTS ENLISTING.
WELLINGTON, October 11. Dr Thacker asked the Prime Minister in Parliament to-day whether during the recess the National Cabinet would give facilities for every civil servant to enlist, provided he was fit. He understood' that not only in the Defence Department, but in the Printing Department there were a number of men who could not get the right to enlist. Mr Massey said a return placed before the House last week indicated that up to the present no difficulties had been placed in the way of civil servants desiring to enlist. He could not .give the definite promise asked for because some branches of the service found it impossible to allow further officers to go, engineers and surveyors especially. The Government was doing everything possible to give the necessary facilities. Mr Wilford; What about using the women’s reserve? Mr Massey: Every woman in New Zealand will have the opportunity of offering her services to Now Zealand within a few weeks, and stating what she is able and willing to do
