At a result of the visit paid to Australasia last year by two representatives of the City of Bristol for the purpose of developing the business done through that Home port, the general conclusions on the subject of the Australasian steamship services are summed up in the following recommendations;—(a) To run a 14 days’ service at fixed dates between Australian porta and the port of Bristol, with Bristol the first port of call on the Homeward journey, at least for alternate steamers, and to make arrangements for calling at Hobart during the apple seasqn. (b) To make provision for the transportation of grain, lumber, ore, metals, and other heavy classes of cargo from Australia, (c) To provide a fortnightly service of steamers Homeward from New Zealand at least during the season, October to June, with fixed dates of departure and arrival, (d) To run a fortnightly service of steamers outward to New Zealand calling only at Manchester and Liverpool, and eliminating the calls at Glasgow and in Australia ; it is suggested that these steamers should go alternately via Auckland and Bluff, (e) To make provision for the cargo which could be secured from West Australian ports for Bristol. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Co.’s agents explain that the time-table of the direct vessels of that line has been altered so that the boats will sail a fortnight latex than the dates originally fixed. Theref-.-re the next sailings from London will be the Mamai'i on the 19th inst., the Athenio oa April 16, the Corinthic ,on May 14, the Tainui on June 11, and so on.
