OBITUARY

| ME JAMES MATHIESON. LONDON, July 9. Mr James Mathieaon, of Dunedin, a well-known stock dealer, was found drowned at Felixstowe. He had been staying at the Kenilworth Hotel, London, where a doctor diagnosed a clot of blood on the brain. At the inquest an open verdict was returned. Mr Mathieson, who came out from Scotland to Dunedin in the days of its infancy, was 81 years of age. For some years he acted as a stock-dealer, in which occupation he became extensively known and highly respected. He retired a good many years ago, taking up his residence in Dunedin. In June, 1912, he made- a tour of the dominion, which he followed U£> by leaving Auckland a few months later for Canada; afterwards travelling through the United States, England, Scotland, and the Continent, returning to Dunedin quite unexpectedly in May of last year. . Two months later he again loft the dominion for London via Canada and the United States. In letters written to a friend in Dunedin he complained of having had a severe illness, as a result of a clot of blood on the brain. He held out hopes of complete, if somewhat slow, recovery, but was quite aware of his danger. Deceased had no relations hero. His wife died many years ago. LADY HARDINGE. SIMLA, July 12. The deat h is reported of Lady Hardinge, wife of Baron Hardinge, Viceroy of India, following an operation. LONDON, July 12. Lady Hardinge was operated upon on Wednesday, and died in a nursing home at London from shock.
