THE BOY SCOUTS
By Scoutmaster.
" Scoutmaster ” will be pleased to receive reports of parades and other items of interest for insertion in this column. They should be left at the office of the Otago Daily Times not later than noon on Mondays, and should be addressed to “ Scoutmaster.” Boy Scouts in this district will be pleased to learn that Mr Guy, Dominion Chief Otter, has made rapid progress, and is now well on the way to recovery from his accident. The Riverton Scouts took part in the Empire Day celebrations, and I learn from “Scout” in the Southland Daily News, that their good marching and splendid behaviour gained for them many complimentary remarks from the spectators. The Dannevifke Scouts assisted the Overseas Club in compiling and lighting a bonfire on Empire Day. Besides the bonfire fireworks were let off, .and, apart from the pleasure derived from doing the good turn, the scouts thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The Boy Scouts’ paper, the Despatch Bearer, is mooting with a very hearty response, and letters are still coming in from country districts, expressing the thanks of officers and scouts for the usefulness of the paper. Two hundred thousand Boy Scouts in Groat Britain recently assisted the National Institute for the Blind in a novel way. In aid of the institute’s campaign for funds the scouts did many interesting things; but, perhaps the most novel way of getting cash for this richly deserving cause was by acting as shoe-blacks. It appears that each group of scouts had a card inscribed with the name of the institute, and underneath the following significant words“ Boy Scouts are doing their good turn to-day. Help the blind. Will you help?”
