STRANGE LICENSE TRANSFER.
SHIFTED SIXTY-SIX MILES. (From Oub Own Correspondent.) GREYMOUTH, July 7. The transfer of a liquor license for a distance of 66 miles was successfully accomplished yesterday, when the application by A. O’Donnell for an accommodation license at (BLackwater Mines) was granted by the Westland committee. The modus operandi was to allow the old Humphrey’s Gully Hotel license for promises about 10 miles from Hokitika to lapse, thereby making an apparent opening. The police and Mr C. Wagstaff (of Waiuta) strongly objected, and although the magistrate, as chairman, ,and one other member of the committee, opposed the application as illegal, a majority of the committee decided to grant the license.
