GAELIC SOCIETY.

The monthly meeting of the society, held at the Art Gallery Hall on the 7th inst., was Well attended, notwithstanding the unfavourabe weather. The chief (Mr Dugald M'Pherson) presided, supported by Oaitetains Roderick Mackenzie and Kenneth Cameron. In opening the meeting the chief extended a hearty Highland welcome to all, and stated in concluding that the annual gathering of the society would take place on September 18, which was the date of the speakep-’s birthday. The senior bard (Mr Neil Macfadyen)', with Mrs Macfadycn, wore present. National music was supplied by Pipe-major John M‘Kechnie, Messrs John MtLpan, Angus M'Miilan, and Dan Matheson, jun. The programme was as follows:—Mr Neil Macfadyen, Gaelic song, “ Air faill illo ”; Miss M'Poak, recitation, “The Execution of Montrose ” ; Miss Mary M‘Donald, Gaelic songs. “Is thoil leum a Ghealtcach ” and “ Fhleasgaich Oig ” : Mr Willie M‘Kenzie, dance, eoantreus; Highland reel, danced by the audience; Mr Dan Matheson, iun., Gaelic song, “s’ thoil leum a Kheibhair ” ; Mr M‘Millan bagpipe selections; Mr Colin M'Konzie, jun., dance, Irish Jig; Mr Tom Flynn, song, “Oh, Jerusalem”; Mr Neil Macfadycn. Gaelic song. “Mo lillie ” t Mr M'Poak, songs, “The Spiraling Wheel” and “Bonnie Doon” ; and a Highland schottische danced by the audience. Amongst thoso present were Captain B. M'Lean, of Auckland. and Mr P. Duncan, of the Christchurch Scottish Society. The usual enjoyable dance terminated the meeting.
