ALLEGED EMBEZZLEMENT.
CRAMOND COMMITTED FOR TRIAL WELLINGTON, July 8.
The Magistrate’s Court was crowded today, when Horace Arthur Cramond, former local manager tor Cock’s Tourist Agency, appeared on remand for the third time. Eight charges of embezzlement against him .Were proceeded with, the total sum involved being Jg 1435 2s lid. The first information read that on February 15, 1914, being am employee of Thomas Cook and Son, he committed the theft of £165 6s Bd, tlie property of Thomas Cook and Son. The wording of the other charges is the same, the various amounts being ;—On March 5, £350; March 31, £3o;■■■April '9, £7O; April 17, £452 8s; April 24, £67 8s; May 8, £250; May 13, £SO. It is alleged that Cramond received moneys in the course of the firm’s business, and did not account for them in the usual mariner; also that he drew cheques in the firm’s name and cashed them, the butts of the cheque forms being not filled in. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., was on the bench, and Chief Detective Broberg conducted the prosecution. Mr M. Myers appeared for Cramond. All the cases were taken together, and after evidence had been given by several witnesses the accused reserved his defence and was committed for trial. Bail was allowed, accused in his own recognisance of £SOO, and two f'Aivties of £250 each.
