A MUSICAL SCHOLARSHIP.
It was reported at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Competitions Society that the Dresden Piano Company had. offerecf to establish a pianoforte scholarship in connection with the Competitions. Tho offer was contained in tho following letter from Mr R. A. Horne, the Christchurch manager of the company:— “Christchurch, June 24, 1914. “Dear Sir,—As you are aware, our company has always taken a keen interest in. your society's successful work in fostering and developing the art of music in oiir community. It is at once our interest and our pleasure to second your efforts for tho attainment of the highest standards and ideals in this connection. “Not infrequently, we conceive, it happens that students gifted with talent are in need of assistance for tho effective pursuance of their studies, and therefore we are pleased to submit for the approval of your society our offer to establish a pianoforte scholarship in connection with your annual Competitions, as follows: “1. ‘The Dresden Piano Company’s .Scholarship,’ entitling the successful competitor in section (15 years and under 18 years) to free tuition for one year. Our company will disburse thp fees of any tutor under whom tho selected candidate may elect to place himself or herself. “2. Our company will place a teaching studio, furnished with a piapo, at the disposal of tho tutor and the pupil for purposes of instruction free of charge during the currency of the scholarship. “Wo shall be glad to know whether our project meets with tho favourable consideration of your society.—Yours faithfully, ■ “The Deesden Piano Company (Ltd.). “(R, A. Horne, manager.)” The committee, of the Competitions Society accepted tho offer with thanks, and the following reply was sent: — “Christchurch, June 26, 1914. “Mr R. A. Horne, manager Dresden Piano, “Company, Christchurch. “Dear Sir, —I am instructed to convey to you the thanks of our society for your kindness in offering a pianoforte scholarship to be competed for at our next festival, and
to state that your offer will bo accepted with pleasure. - . , , “Your conditions has noted, anti classes will be arranged accordingly. “Again thanking you, —I remain, yours faithfully, ~ “G. W. Jenxee, Secretary.
