(From Oup Own Correspondent.) The Orange Lodge /celebrated the 12th July by a social and dance in the Masonio Hall on Friday evening. There was a splendid attendance, dancing being kept up till an early hour next day. During the evening recitations and songs were rendered. A special meeting of the Poultry Society was held in the Bridge Hotel on Friday, Mr E. Richardson in the chair. The secretary (Mr Frank M'Fadyen) reported a net profit of about £lB on the recent show. This was considered highly satisfactory. ‘ Votes of, thanks were accorded those who gave donations and otherwise assisted, especially . Mrs Fuel! for the use of her room for meeting purposes. Various suggestions were brought forward for the benefit of next annual show’. On Wednesday the staff of the railway station assembled for the purpose of making presentations to Mr J. Coofcburn. train examiner, who has been transferred to Hillside Workshops, and Mr W. Bissett, a retired engine-driver, now fanning at Wongaloa. Mr W. Lane (station master), in officiating and presenting a Mosgiel travelling rug to Mr Cockburn, and a silver-mounted pip&, barometer, and a tobacco pouch to Mr Bissett, referred to the excellent way both had i*\ performed their respective duties, and the good feeling that had always existed between the members of the staff. Both suitably replied. A very pleasant evening was spent, interspersed with songs. The condition of Mr G. H. Gilroy, the well-known veterinary surgeon and retired farmer, of Stirling, is causing his relatives and his many friends some anxiety. The weather changed again for the worse on Saturday and on Sunday, and during the night it mined incessantly. The roads aro in a bad state with mud and ruts caused through the rough weather.
