SOCIAL PRESENTATION TO DR AND MRS HYDE.

There was a large and representative gathering in the Clyde Town Hall on the 3rd inst. on the occasion of a social to Dr and Mrs Hyde, who are removing from Clyde to take up their residence on their run at Tarras. Mr S. T. Spain, of Earnsclough, presided, and read apologies for non-attendance accompanied by appreciation of Dr Hyde’s kindness and good qualities from residents in various parts of the district, extending from Cromwell to Alexandra. At a suitable interval in the concert the chairman presented Dr Hyde with a handsome roll-top desk, and asked him to accept for Mrs Hyde (who was unable to bo present owing to indisposition) a valuable dressing case. Mr Spain referred to Dr Hyde’s public spirit, his many good qualities as a medical man and as a citizen, and expressed a hope that both he and Mrs Hyde would be long spared to enjoy country life. Messrs Weaver, Jeffery, and Fachc (who had travelled a long way to b'' present) bore testimony to the doctor’s skill and his good qualities. _ Dr Hyde, who was enthusiastically received, returned thanks in suitable “terms, remarking that h 0 W as gratified by the kindly spirit which had been shown to himself and his wife, after a residence of 28 years amongst them. A supper followed, after which tho ball was cleared for dancing. During the evening Mr Spain took occasion to introduce Dr Thomas, who was taking up Dr Hyde’s practice.
