SMALLPOX EPIDEMIC

SYDNEY, December 2. A case of smallpox has been discovered at Coolah, 180 miles north-west of Sydney. One case of smallpox was reported in the city and three at Coolah to day. December 3Three smallpox cases have occurred at Temora, near Albury. Nine cases of smallpox were reported to-day from the suburb of Leichhardt—a father, mother, and seven children. December 4. One case of smallpox was reported in the city to day and one at Coolah. December 7. One case of smallpox was reported during the week-end. December 8. Two rfiore cases of smallpox have been discovered at Coolah. Two cases of smallpox were reported to-day. PERTH, December 2. The suspicious case of illness at Narrogin is believed to be smallpox. FREMANTLE, December 3. A second class passenger, J. T. Ward, died of smallpox aboard the P. and 0. liner Malwa just before her arrival here. The Malwa has been quarantined. It is supposed that Mr Ward became infected with smallpox at Aden. The disease was of a virulent type. His remains were removed ashore and cremated.
