One direct result of the breeding of birds on the Acclimatisation Society’s reserve at Temuka is seen on the Washdykc Lagoon, where a couple of dozen mallard ducks, which the society liberated some time ago, have settled down as if with the intention of making it their permanent homo. Mr B. Doyle, an amusement caterer from the Old Country, haying purchased for £SOOO a monopoly of sideshow amusements *vt the Auckland Exhibition, floated a company with a capital of £20,000, and the demand has been so great that the £1 shares already stand at a premium of £1 with an upward tendency.
