POLAR EXPLORATION
FREMANTLE, August 19. Captain John King Davis was a passenger by the Orontes, which arrived from London to-day.
In an interview he said that provided the Victorian Government kept its promise to dock the Aurora he would bring the vessel to Melbourne, and if the funds were forthcoming he would sail for Adelieland in November, and reach Dr IMawson in December. He had collected £3OOO in England out of the £IO,OOO required. Phis amount was needed, firstly, for fit-ting-out the Aurora, but mainly for publishing the results of the investigations. MELBOURNE, August 25. Dr Mawson, in reply to a message sent by Lord Denman, says one year of the Adelie Land climate should satisfy anybody. Otherwise all is well, and he has great expectations for the coming summer.
