ARCHBISHOP O’SHEA.

CONSECRATION CEREMONY. WELLINGTON, August 17. The Very Rev. Dean O’Shea was consecrated as Coadjutor Archbishop of New Zealand at the basilica this morning in the presence of an exceedingly large gathering. The church was crowded with a congregation which included very many visitors from other parts of New Zealand. Archbishop Redwood was the consecrating prelate, and was assisted by Bishop Cleary (Auckland) and Bishop Verdon (Dunedin). The consecration ceremony lasted about two hours, and at the conclusion a sermon was preached by the Rev. Father Ryan (Melbourne), The new Archbishop is to preach at St. Joseph’s Church to-night, and will receive several presentations at a ceremony in the Town Hail to-morrow night. There was a crowded gathering at the Wellington Town Hall on the 18th (a Press Association message states) when a number of congratulatory addresses were, presented to Coadjutor Archbishop O’Shea, and also a cheque for £4OO subscribed by people in the high diocese. Addresses were presented from the clergy, the laity, the executive of the Auckland Hibernian Society and its branches, and the executive of the Wellington Hibernian Society and its branches. Speeches were delivered by Archbishop Redwood, Bishop Cleary, and Dean Power, It was announced by Archbishop Redwood that Dean M'Enna, of Masterton, had been appointed Vicar-general in succession to Archbishop O’Shea.
