MISUSE OF PARTY FUNDS

NEW YORK, August 12,

The commission which was appointed to investigate the charges against Sulzcr reports that the irregularities are so eerious that public interest demands instant action by the Legislature. Sulzer admits utilising political funds for private speculation. August 13. The State Legislature, after an all-night session, decided to impeach Governor Sulzer. The Legislature held that the charges were practically proven, despite Mrs Sulzer’s statement that she was responsible for the whole of the speculations, which she made without her husband's knowledge. An extraordinary situation has been caused by the refusal of Governor Sulzer to leave office, lie declares that he will ignore the impeachment and refuse to recognise Mr Flynn as Acting-governor, also that he will use every weapon available in order to retain office. August 14. The friends of Governor Sulzer declare that his impeachment by the State Assembly is the result of a Tammany plot. Sulzer, after having secured office through Tammany influences, refused to be their tool any longer; hence the impeachment charge. s Sulzer refused to quit, and Lieutenantgovernor Glynn took possession of tho Governor’s offices, but Sulzer declined to be driven out, and attempted to conduct the State’s business as usual. Matters have reached a deadlock, and tho heads of tho departments do not know who really possesses authority.
