QUARTERLY MEETING
At the quarterly meeting of tho Now Zealand Chess Association his Excellency the Governor notified his acceptance of the position of patron. The Canterbury Club was granted restoration to the major status, and the Carterton District High School Club was affiliated to the association, being the first club from a school to make such an application. Various notices of motion were disposed of sts follows: It was decided to adopt, in lieu of parte I and II of tho British chess codo, the laws of chess which were adopted by the Briti-Ji Chess Federation in 1912. It was decided that six bo the maximum number of rounds to bo played per week at the annual championship congress. An amendment that this should not apply where tho entries exceed 10 was lost by 22 voles to 18.
The following time limit was adopted: 18 moves (or more) to bo made in the first hour, 36 moves (or more) to bo made in tho first two hoars, and so on. Tho motion to limit entries for the animal championship tourney to 12 lapsed. A committee was set up to investigate complaints regarding the Nelson Congress book.
