AUSTRALIAN JOCKEY CLUB. SYDNEY, August 9. The report of the Australian Jockey Club fhows that after an expenditure of £21,690 on improvements and £62,750 added money the season ended with a surplus of £16,857. The added money provided for the current season is £70,750. This provides for an increase in the prizes of the Spring Stakes to £ISOO, the Randwick Plato to £2OOO, the Grantham Stakes to £750, the Villiere Stakes to £IOOO, the December Stakes to £1250. the Summer Cup to £ISOO, the Anniversary Handicap to £IOOO, the Autumn Stakes to £ISOO, the A.J.C. Plate to £2OOO, and the Sires’ Produce Stakes to £2500. The prizes for the other events are increased by from £SO to £250. The report states that control by stipendiary stewards has proved quite satisfactory. VICTORIA RACING CLUB. MELBOURNE, August 5. At the annual meeting of the Victorian Racing Club, held yesterday, the Chairman stated that it had been thought wise, in tho interests of racing, to appoint stipendiary stewards. They had every confidence in tho men selected. Tho committee was as much in favour of the totalisator ns ever, but it was waiting developments. The Chairman, in moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, congratulated the members upon the club having Fad a most successful year.
