SIR JOSEPH WARD.
RECEPTION IN CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, August 11. * Sir Joseph Ward arrived here from Wellington on Saturday. He will go on to Dunedin by the first express on Wednesday, and will stay' there over Thursday, proceeding to Invercargill on Friday' morning. In the course of an interview, Sir Joseph declined to talk politics. Referring to the money market, he looked for an early improvement. Large sums of money were available in England every year for investment. The United States’ demand was falling off, and with an improvement in the international position there ought to he an easier market. Sir Joseph, was accorded a civic reception at a representative gathering of citizens thus morning. Messrs Holland (Mayor,) Russell, Witty, and Glover, M.P.’s, were among the speakers. Sir Joseph, in’ replying, gave no indication of his intentions, speaking on water-power development, the financial outlook, and other matters of general interest. He thanke dthe citizens for their reception and good wishes.
