Flour, £8 to £8 ss. Bran and pollard. Is. OAMARU STOCK MARKET. (Fitoii Oub Own Correspondent) O AMARU, August 9. Business in the stock market has been on an improved scale tins week. There is a good demand for ewes, but the supply falls a gooel deal short of it, and business is consequently restricted. At this week’s sale no ewes were penned, the sheep pens -containing only a small quantity of fat and forward wethers and store lambs. Fat wethers brought from 22s 3d to 235, while forward wethers realised 21s 9d. and store lambs 15s 6d. A line of

fat wethers were sold privately at 225. Private saies of ewes include a line of 650 two, four, six, and eight-tooth crossbreds, chiefly young ewes, at 255. Pour-tooth ewes have been sold at from 26s to 275, and aged ewes in lamb and in good condition at from 13s 6d to 16s 6d. These prices were badly beaten at a clearing sale at M aikakahi this week, when four-troth ewes realised 29s 3d and six-tooth owes 26s 9d. Ewe hoggets have been sold here privately at 20s, and the same price was obtained at Palmerston yesterday for a line of 300. A little more.business has been done in cattle, which are generally in good demand. A line of 100 two to three-year-old Shorthorn cross steers was taken privately for transfer to Canterbury at an average of £6 10s, and throe-vear-old steers have been sold at from £7 15s to £3 2s 6d. Young cattle are also wanted, and are worth from £2 15s to £3 10s for steers, and heifers from starlings to 18 months old. With the near approach of the new dairying season dairy cows have increased in demand and risen in vaiuo. At this week's auction good cows at profit brought from £lO 10s to £ll 12s 6d. medium quality from £8 to £lO, and aged cows from £8 to £7. Really first class well-bred cows are worth more than the top figures given, and heifers bring relatively good high prices. A small line of cows, to calve in the spring, realised private! v an average of £8 10s.

SOUTHLAND STOCK MARKET. (FROU Ol'B OWX CGREESrOXDEXT.) INVERCARGILL. August 9. Business in stock continues good in all classes, with exceptionally- good sales. The demand for stoie sheep is still keen, and at the time of writing the supply is nut nearly eqnai to rile -demand. Several northern buyers have again been down during the week, but most of -them went away without making any purchases, the opinion being generally expressed by them that prices here are as dear, and in some cases slightly clearer, than in the north. There is no doubt that the price of store sheep is very high, and it is still early in the season. As high as 25s has been paid for two ana four-tooth ewes, and as .high as 19a for extra special mixed sexes hoggets, decent lines of the latter readily bringing 17s. Store cattle arc also on the move, with a good inquiry, and -with the price of sheep likely to go still higher it is almost certain that ihe demand Tor store cattle will harden, and prices go oven higher than they are today. The demand for store cattle must, however, go off in the autumn, as it has during the last few years when feed has commenced to go off, so graziers should not rush too strongly into this class unless they are prepared to quit them before the end of January. Fat cattle and fat sheep still hold their price, and the demand is likely to continue. The supply in both sections is equal to the demand. The open weather wo have been having lately has had a good effect in the fattening of aheap and cat thy and supplies in the future should continue good. It is not anticipated that prices will recede to any extent. Dairycows arc in strong demand, and the good price ol cheese is having a healthy effect on this market, a. good number having boon sold during the week at prices from £lo to £l3 for really good kind, £8 to £9 for medium. One or two farmers who milked all last .season are talking about selling their dairy herds, and they should have no difficulty in finding buyers.
