ALLEGED ASSAULT.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) WANGANUI, August 9. The alleged assault and robbery by two men on Cyril AT Kay, reported at Waverley on Wednesday night has been fully investigated by Detective Liddells. The 'story of the robbery is discounted, It now appears ejuite clear that the whole affair was meant as a juke, but was carried too far. The police are determined to bring the perpetrator of the assault to justice if possible, and Detective Siddells is still pursuing inquiries .it Waver ley. The shot supposed to have been fired from a revolver in order to frighten off a voting man going to M‘Kay s assistance is now stated to have been the explosion of a cracker only.
