KOVAL ARTILLERY.

STATISTICAL RETURN. (From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, August 8. A return presented to Parliament to-day-shows that 63 members of the Royal New Zealand Artillery left that force in the period from July 1, 1911, to Ju y 15, 1913. From tho return it appears that two of the artillerymen died, one deserted, and nine were superannuated. The services of others were terminated voluntarily or otherwise as follows:—Own request, 18; by purchase, 12; appointed to permanent staff, 10; appointed to civil service, 5 ; unlikely to become efficient soldiers, 3; medically unfit, 2; services no longer required, 2; rejected on final medical examination, 1; conviction by civil power, 1 ; false answer to attestation, 1; misconduct, 1. The retiring artillerymen ranged in rank from gunner to quarter-master sergeant. Tho longest service recorded in the return is that of Gunner T. W. Bonner, who terminated a service of over 54 years on March 15, 1913. At tho other extreme the connection with tho force of a candidate who was rejected on a final medical examination lasted for only three days. The return was obtained by Air A. Glover. .
