THE NEW HEBRIDES
SYDNEY, August 4. The Eev. C. James has returned from a visit to the New Hebrides. The result of his inquiries confirms the emphatic position taken up by missionaries and other Britishers regarding the non-workability of the condominium. The French have been steadily strengthening their position by acquiring land and encouraging settlement, and although Australia rather than France is their market those interested do not hesitate to say that the British have little chance of fair play when land claims are dealt with.
