THE LAND PROBLEM
LONDON, August 3 The Nation states that the report of the Committee of Inquiry into the land system is practically complete. Mr Lloyd George opens the campaign in September, though Mr Asquith will forward it. The basis of the Liberals’ future policy will be the minimum wage, the ability to pay which will be met by giving the farmer the means of recouping himself by an adjustment of rent and security of tenure. This, however, is impossible without the State’s assistance.
