DISA PPOINTEU APPLICANTS. APPEAL TO PRLME MINISTER. PAHIATUA, July 20. At the conclusion of the Mangatainoka land ballot yesterday the following telegram was sent to the Prime Minister by the president of the Pahiatua District Progressive Association :—“ The lion. W. F. Alassoy, Wellington. Throe hundred and fifty disappointed applicants at the Mangalainoka block, al! good settlers. Unsatisfied demand for land in this fertile district. Strongly urge you to hasten subdivision of the Balfour Estate.” The following reply was received : —“ I have referred your telegram in re the Balfour Estate to the chairman of tho Land Purchase Board. The Government will endeavour to supply land for those who require it.— Massev.” Tho Balfour Estate, which comprises

3000 acres of good land adjoining the town, is owned by Mr A. J. Balfour, ex-Primo Minister of Great Britain. It was offered to the Government some years ago for £ll 10s per acre and has lately been reoffered at something like £lB per acre.
