ASSOCIATION OF NURSERYMEN.

AUCKLAND, April 10. The fifth annual meeting of the New ' Zealand Association of Nurserymen (inj corporated) was opened in Auckland this ; morning. j The President, in his address, mentioned that at the end of the year 1909-10 I the membership was just over 20; in \ 1910-11 it had increased to 50, and for j the year just ended it was 50, embracing ! neavly all the leading firms in the North ! and South Islands. j Mr Lippiatt said that oversea compej tition at rates that precluded the possi- ! bility of the Dominion nurserymen com- | peting and paying a living wage still ; prevailed, especially in the south. An \ endeavour was being made to get an j understanding amongst the trade as to i the best varieties of fruits to work up in ' quantity, with recommendations as to ! locality. ' The annual report submitted by the executive stated that the items for future consideration would include: (a) Watching the trend of intended legislation, (b) I the question of the best and most profit- ! able varieties of fruit to grow,, (c) imi proved trade methods, and (d) a standard ' uniform price for equal values in trees ' and plants. 1 Messrs Horton (Hastings) and Waugh (Wellington) expressed satisfaction with the state of affairs disclosed by the | annual report. j Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows:—President, Mr A. i M'Donald (Epsom); vice-president, Mr J.
