SONNET: NIGHT
While his great chariot draped in cloth of gold Moves proudly onward to the gates of night, The royal Sun sceptred and crowned wth. light Dispenses blessings plenteous, manifold; Then,, when the wheels within the gatea have rolled, Night's black-mailed hosts pour forth with, serried might, Putting the day's last forlorn hopes to flight, And close-enthrall each valley, plain, and wold. Above night's banners hosts of angel 6tars, All fully clad in flashing golden mail, Stand sentinel around her leaden throne; Darkness shuts in all life with prison bars; Silence profound doth everywhere prevail, Silence that turns creation into stone. —H. P. K. Roslyn.
