JOHNSON AND THE MASONS
INITIATION DECLARED VOID. LONDON, April 10. The Forfarsliire Grand Masonic Lodge has inquired into the initiation of Johneon, the pugilist, by the Lodge Forfar and Kincardine. The initiation has been declared void, and the lodge has been required to show cause why it should not be suspended. There was submitted at the quarterly communication of Grand Lodge of Scotland, held in Edinburgh last October, the report of tho proceedings at a meeting of the Grand Committee, at which a letter was road calling- attention to the circumstances attending; the nomination and initiation of Jack Johnson, the coloured heavy-weight pugilist bv the Lodge Forfar and Kincardine, No. 223. In the resolution of the committee it was stated that the Grand Secretary was instrijctad to request the provincial Grand Lodgo of Forfarshire to inquire into the circumstance of the nomination and initiation. It was ordered that the result of the in-
quiry be reported to the Grand Committee, and meantime the lodge was interpelled from conferring any further degrees on Johnson or requesting any other lodge to do so ; pending the inquiry and until the interpellation be removed by instructions of the Grand Committee.
