ALIENS' TROUBLES
CASE OF MRS ELLIOTT. MELBOURNE, April 8. The Federal immigration officers state that they cannot understand the difficulty regarding Mrs Elliott, who is reported to be unable to leave New Zealand owing to the operation of the Australian aliens' laws. Mr Hunt, Secretary of the Department of External Affairs, said that where Eurasians were concerned the Government was always pleased to speed the parting guest,- and in the case of any such wanting to return to India from New Zealand it always did what it could to facilitate a passage through the Commonwealth. As far as he knew Mrs Elliott's case had not been officially reported, and the department was unable to understand why a shipping company should refuse to take her as a passenger.
