She Heard, Right Enough!
She was a dear old lady, and she lived in a neat little house near Portsmouth. But she was as deaf as she was dainty. One fine spring morning, as she sat before her fire doing needlework, she raised her head. Yes; surely that was a low knock at the door. With quick fingers, she smoothed her hair, and felt that her brooch was straight, and then she tailed sweetly: “Who’s there? Come in !” A battleship out at sea had fired off her two largest guns.
