April 6.—Tho weather during the nad month j-as very wet, hut so far' this month it has boon bettor. It is to bo honed the pod weather will continue. All Cme davs have been taken advantage of to pet the harvest safely secured. Oats have boon taken in very bad order, and grass seed has in some cases been abandoned, but the past few days work has been carried on under more favourable conditions. 4. fort n ; pht s pood weather would see tho harvest completed. Iced for stock is plentiful but early turnips have run to seed and remiirc to be eaten off at once. Sock is looking well just now. Political. When not discussing* the weather, politics is the chief topic of conversation. As the new Prime Minister is well known here, we offer him our congratulations on the high position ho now occupies. We recognise his ability and wish mm success in tho responsible duties he has undertaken Literary.—The book published by the Haiepa Pioneers’ Association is now in the hands of subscribers. It gives a very good account tho hardships undergone bv the early settlers, and also reproductions of several of them. The book is well worth buying, and in future years will be esteemed' of groat value.
