INTERNATIONAL ARBITRATION.
A MEETING OF AUCKLAND CITIZENS. AUCKLAND, March 28A public meeting in furtherance of a movement to obtain a world petition ia favour of international arbitration was held in the Town Hall to-night under thi auspices of the Auckland Branch of tli» International Arbitration and Peace Association. There was an attendance of about 900 people, and the Mayor (Mr C. J. Parr) presided. The Mayor explained that the meeting was called to express sympathy with tho cause of international peace. A great mass of people, he believed, realised the horrors of war, and that it paid do o*w to go to war, the only result* of v uiaia being suffering, bloodshed, and woe to millions with no earthly justification.— (Applause.) A world-wide movement in favour of peace was in progress, and ife was well that even in this remote part of the world they should show their sympathy. The Rev. W. Ready, president oi t;io Methodist Conference, moved, amidst applause—" That in the opinion of this meeting of Auckland citizens international arbitration is desirable in all possible* cases before retorting to war." The motion was carried. The Hon. G. Fowlds, rising amidst applause, moved—" That this meeting endorsee the world petition to the next Hague Conference as a desirable means towards securing international arbitration before resorting to war, and urges all to sign and get it signed.". Professor Mills seconded the motion, and the resolution was put. and carried unanimously. Petitions! are to be circulated for signature, and will be forwarded to the headquarters of the association.
