VITAL STATISTICS.
VV ELLINGTON RETURNS. WELLINGTON; March 31. For March the births in Wellington totalled 180, deaths 53, and marriages 101. The totals for the March quarter, 1912, compared with the same quarter in 1911, are:—Births, 522 (500) j deaths, 170 (200); marriages, 264 (251). The vital statistics for tlto City of Dunedin for the past month were: Births, 131; deaths, 48; marriages, 56. The returns show a considerable decrease in deaths, the number for the preceding month being 84, and the March quarter in 1911, 224. whereas during the quarter just ended there were 185 deaths. The births, when compared with the previous month, show a decrease of 16, (he number born ip February being 147 The total for the quarter was 432, as compared with 449 for the corresponding period in 1911. The number of marriages for the month just ended is six less than those registered during the previous month, when the total was 62. The figures for tho quarter show an increase of 10 on those recorded for the first three months of last year, when 164 were registered. The total for this year is 174.
