EASTERN EXPLORATION
CONSTANTINOPLE, May 9
There was an excited debate in the Chamber of Deputies. The Minister of the Interior stated that a former Grand Vizier had granted certain explorers the right to excavate two passages, but permission for their attempt from the sanctuary of the Mosque of Omar was refused. The explorers, said the Minister, had then corrupted the officials and violated the sanctuary. The baggage of the Englishmen was searched at Jaffa, but it contained no proof of thefts. Captain Parker, when interviewed, said that all the. antiquities found in Jerusalem had been handed to the Turkish authorities.
