LONDON, January 24
The Pall Mall Gazette publishes its diplomatic correspondent's statement that the late King Leopold was so exasperated and alarmed over the humanitarian agitation concerning the Congo that he, appealed to Germany's protection, and agreed to the invasion of France through Belgium. This plan, after his death, fell into hands which communicated it to France. The correspondent declares that the experienced chiefs of the diplomatic service on the Continent believe the rumour to be true. January 27. The Pall Mall Gazette's military correspondent describes Germany's pressure on Holland to fortify as due to the enormous strength of Eastern France, where all the fortresses inland have been enlarged. BRUSSELS, January 26. The Independence Beige- has obtained confirmation of the late King Leopold's proposal that Germany should invade France via Belgium. PARIS, January 26. , The army manoeuvres next autumn will be. held at the mouth of the Oise, on the natural route of a German invasion via Belgium.
