FIRES.
AUCKLAND, October 26. A fire at Devonport early this morning destroyed a house in Mosley avenud I owned by Mr Parker and occupied by£ Mr Charles Sainty. Mrs Sainty and) j family escaped in their night attire. In- / suranoes: House, £323 in* the Liverpool ■and London and Globe; furniture, £33o\ in the South British. • NAPIER, October 26. [ The Hawke's Bay Soap and Tannerf Company's works at Awatoto were totallj destroyed by fire this morning. Th/ flames had a good hold when discovered! and in the absence of fire-fighting applit ances the structure was soon reduced t» ashes. Insurances : Soap works —Phcenix!' £1350; Norwich Union, £1000; Royal £IOOO. Contents—£l4oo in varioiu offices. The loss over and above tin insurance is estimated at from £3OOO U " £4OOO. NAPIER, October 29. Fire early this morning destroyed tba dwelling owned by Mr J. C. Bryant, andl occupied by Mr P. Edwards. The in-' mates had a narrow ascape, and lost' everything. A house owned by Mr Richardson, of Pahiatua, and occupied by iur M'GrathJj was completely gutted by fire at p o'clock this morning. Insurances: £325 on the house and £125 on the furnitura' in the State Office.
