NEW ZEALAND GOVERNORS.
LORD PLUNKET'S DEPARTURE.
LORD ISLINGTON'S RECEPTION ARRANGED.
AUCKLAND, June 5. Lord Plunket arrived here yesterday morning, and held his final levee at the Government House on Saturday evening, when a considerable number of citizens attended. Amongst these present were the Hon. G. Fowlds and Dr Findlay. His Excellency was subsequently presented by the Mayor with an address from the City Council. An address from the Bishop of Auckland on behalf of the Anglican Church authorities was also presented. Reference was made in the addresses to the great interest taken by Lord and Lady, Plunket in social and charitable movements, but the interest taken by Lady Plunket in the promotion of the health of women and children, and the institution of the "Plunket Nurses" was specially referred to. In replying to the citizens' address, Lord Plunket referred to the new Defence Act. He expressed the opinion " That the decision of the people of New Zealand to create a citizen army, thoroughly trained and equipped, and insisting that every man must be prepared to take some part in his country's defence, is as patriotic as epoch-marking an event in your history as any of those to which you have called attention in your address." Lord Plunket will leave for Sydney en route for England by the Maheno to-mor-tow evening. WELLINGTON, June 4. The new Governor, Lord Islington, is due to reach Wellington on June 22. He will be officially welcomed the same day at a ceremony to be held in the old parliamentary buildings, the stage erected for the Royal memorial being retained for the purpose. A public reception will also be given at the Town Hall in the evening of his Excellency's arrival, or as soon after as possible.
