A SERIOUS CHARGE.
ASHBURTON, J-une 4. At the Police Court to-day, before Mr V. G. Day, S.M., a young man named William Hunt, a resident of Ashburton, was charged, on the information of the police, with wilfully attempting to set fire on May 28 to premises known as Butler's Hotel, unoccupied, and the property of Patri'ck Devane, licensee of the Lincoln Hotel, Lincoln. Hun y reserved his defence, and was committed for trial at the next sitting of the Supreme Court at Christchurch on August 13. Bail, which was forthcoming, was fixed at £2OO.
