INQUIRIES BY THE LABOUR DEPARTMENT.
CHRISTCHURCH, June 4. A circular issued by the Labour Department regarding the immigration of boys to be placed with farmers in country districts, is being discussed warmly and criticised adversely in city circles. The circular states that the Government instituting inquiries with regard to the scheme suggested by Mr Thomas E. Sedgwick for the immigration of English lads between the ages of 15 and 19. The opinion is expressed by several prominent men to whom the matter was mentioned that the scheme, if carried out, would mean the replacing in a large measure of adult by boy labonr.
