HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS.

The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Otago Boys and Girls Hish Schools was held en the 21st; present -Hon. J. R. Sinclair, M.L.O. (chairman), Rev. P. B. Eraser, Mr T. K. Sidey M.P., Mr L. Harris, and Mr J. M. Gallaway. An apology was received from his Worship the Mayor (Mr J. H. Walker) A letter was received from the audit inspector suggesting that the rector and lady principal should furnish lists of all the paying oupils attending the schools each term, also suggesting that outstanding school fees should be considered with the view of writing off those fees which are irrecoverable.—-Lists to be supplied; outstanding amounts to be collected where possible; bad debts to be written off. H. D. Stronach, manager of the London and Lancashire Insurance Company, wrote asking the board to give his company a share of tho insurance on the new Girls' Hisrh School. —Insurance, to the extent of £BOOO, to be divided among the local companies, London and Lancashire, and the State office-

The Secretary of Education wrote stating that the Minister could not see his,way to comply with the board's request for a grant of £6OO for new desks and furniture lor the Girls' High School, and stating that in the opinion of the department, the type of desk "suggested was not only expensive, but in many respects unsuitable. —Referred 1 to chairman and secretary to reply. Ranger Kirkpatrick reported on sections in the Oamyru district, Oaniaru town, and Strath-TaieH district, with a suggestion that plantation reserves in Strath-Taieri district, held on yearly lease, be offered at auction for a term of. 14 years, with a provision for resumption of the land if required for plantation purposes. —Suggestion to be acted on. Ranger Kirkpatrick suggested that sections in township of Arden (Middlemarch), which are at present held on yearly license, be offered for a term of 14 years in areas of one acre each, at an upset of 10s.— Agreed to. Mrs A. Wi&hart, late lessee of sections 26 and 27, block IV, Mokoreta, which were passed in at last sale, wrote asking the board to offer the sections at a reduced upset.—Referred to Ranger Kirkpatrick for a report; chairman to- act on its lvoeint.
