FOX TERRIER CLUB.

A SOUTH ISLAND CLUB FORMED. A meeting of fanciers interested in fox terriers was held on the 21st in Mr E. S. Wilson’s office to consider the advisability of forming a South Island Fox Terriee Club. Mr Edward Webster occupied the chair, and there were half a dozen gentlemen present. The Chairman stated that he had a number of apologies from well-known fanciers, all of whom promised substantial support and expressed the hope that a club would be formed on the lines suggested. Mr Webster strongly supported the proposal to form a club, as it would fulfil requirements in a much better manner than present arrangements afforded. This was not to be construed as being in any- way antagonistic or in opposition to the New Zealand Fox Terrier Association, but there had been a growing conviction that an association for the South Island would 1 be ifl, the best interests of the fancy and bring l fox terriers into more prominent notice than hitherto in this portion of tin* Dominion. Mi E. Rogen then moved- —“ That a dab be formed, and that it be called ‘ Tb» South Island Fox Terrier Club.' ’’ This was seconded by Mr R. Huok-va* carried. It was then decided to elect throw and Sir J. G. Ward, Sir George I* Leyt, and Sir George Clifford were, elected fcVjr E. Webster was elected president «r*3 Jus* F. Rogen (Dunedin), Mr G. T. vercargill), and Mr Win, Terry iUksajfe--church) were elected vice-president*. Sit James Thomson was appointed hor.. tvs*.surer and Mr G. A. Wycherley secret ary, the election of a General Cdmnifttee being deferred. The Chairman announced amidst warm, applause that Mr Thomson had generously donated a challenge shield, value 20 and Mr Kerr a cup value 3 guineas, for competition. It was decided to have the shield competed for each year by dogs or bitches over 12 months old, wire or smooth haired. It was further decided to offer a gold medal, value two guineas, yearly to the holder when relinquishing the shield, and that it be competed for this year at Dunedin and' afterwards at Christchurch and Invercargill in due course. Mr Kerr’s cup will bo awarded to the best puppy under 12 months —either smooth or wire-haired. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Thomson for his generous gift, and further thanks were accorded other donors of prizes.,
