SOUTH AUSTRALIAN LOAN

! LONDON, April 21. ! The Daily Mail reports that the South Australian loan lists are closed. It adds that the loan seems to have met with a . very poor response. The underwriters get 66 per cent. The Treasurer of South Australia, Mr R. Butler, when asked for an explanation with respect to a loan, said: —" The Government is not floating a loan at the present time, and is not contemplating doing so. We have money enough in hand to carry us over many months. The cable message probably refers to portions of the two loans of £500,000 each ©old privately through Elder, Smith, and Co. The last £500,000 was disposed of only a few weeks ago. _ The purchasers, no doubt, are putting it on the market, and I believe the terms are as stated It is mot floated aa a South Australian )oa;) at all. We are not lirecily concerned with it, but, of course, wa are anxious to see it go off sue- | oessfully."
