AERIAL NAVIGATION.
LONDON, March 17. Mr o'Gorman, manager of the army aerial factory at Farnborough, states that should the need arise they would be able to commission throe airships, adequately manned and readv for their -work. MELBOURNE, March 18. The first aerial flight in Australia was accomplished by Houdini, a music-hall performer, to-day. He used a Voisin biplane, weighing 14001 b, 'with a 68 horsepower petrol engine. The trial took place at the Diggers' Rest. Houdini made three ascents. In the first he covered a mile in a little ■over a minute at a height of 40ft. Ir the second he 1 went ud 100 ft, and remained in'the air for'three minutes. In the third flight he covered three miles in a little over four> miniftes. The machine descended gracefully and gently to the earth.
