VITAL STATISTICS

SYDNEY, March 21. Preliminary reports of the vital statistics of New' South Wales for 1909 show that the population at the end of last year was 1,645,444, being an increase of 40,435 over the previous year. The marriages numbered 13,048, or 8.03 per thousand, which is the highest record for 22 years. The births were 43,769, or 26.94 per thousand, while the deaths were 9.75 per thousand, which is the lowest rata on record and 9 per cent, below the mean record for the past 10 years.
