RACING IN NEW ZEALAND.

FORBURY PARK TROTTING CLUB'S MEETING. Final Day. The rain, which was in. evidence during the early morning of Wednesday did not augur well for the oonoluding day of the Forbury Park Trotting Club's meeting, but towards noon the weather improved; and the afternoon became quite fine, albeit, somewhat close and oppressive. The rain had not seriously affected the track, but, in fact, had improved the going, and some fairly good times were hung up during the day. Generosity was the favourite selected for the Pony Handicap, but Major Taylor overhauled the field, and won nicely. In the Progressive Handicap Rothella was first choice, and she won from Pinewood, who began off the mark. Frisco finished third after putting in a bad break during the race. An excellent race was provided in the Forbury Handicap, which Walnut captured in a good finish by half a length from Jack Tracey. whilst Roseneath and Myall were fairly close up. Franzie broke his gear, and was pulled up early in the race. This was an excellent betting race, and, in point of favouritism, there was little to choose between Piecework, Jack Tracey, and Myall, • who were favoured in the order named. Queen H, won the Second Amateur Handicap by a margin of seven lengths. Arbitrator was a, strong order for, the Telegraph Handicap, and looked to have a good chance when he, Little George, and 'Mermaline_ were together at the home turn, but in the run home E. M'Kewen landed the pony a winner from Bermaline, who gained second place owing to Arbitrator leaving his feet a few strides from the post. Piecework won the Grand Stand Handicap after a closely-contested race, and another interesting battle followed before Bamboo won the CreLcent ( Handicap, and gave E. M'Kewejj his ' third winning ride during tho Captain win in

the final event was not devoid of a small piece of luck, as Vermont mixed when she looked like beating him at the home turn. The card all round furnished some really fine sport for the large attendance, and during the day £7408 was put through the totalisators, or £1483 above last year's figures. The total for the meeting 1 amounted to £14,465 10s, _or £2910 10s above last year. The club licensed 14 bookmakers, and the splendid success which attended the meeting suggests excellent prospects for the future. Details: — ST.
