RACING IN AUSTRALIA.

VICTORIAN RACING CLUB. Second Day—Thursday, March 3. The crowd at Flemington to-day enjoyed splendid sport in beautiful weather, lne racing was highly inteKstmg notwithstanding that the contest for the All-aged Stakes was reduced to three runners. The meetin"- between Alawa and Prince Foote had been looked forward to with, great interest, and the public naturally was disappointed when Alawa was withdrawn, owing to being unwell. Interest in the race centred in the contest between Malt King and Prince Foote, and the former proved the victor amid the plaudits of the assemblage.- Malt King ran across the straight, and a protest entered by the owner of Prince Foote on that ground was dismissed. Diabolo led from Morgua to the sixfurlong post, where Maruga ran up level, Flavian next. After another furlong Moruga took the lead. He maintained his lead from Diabolo, who was under the whip, and won by a length and threequarters, with two lengths and a-half between second and third. Time, 3min 55|sec.

Coming round to the stand the second time, the crowd on the flat yelled at them. After going nine furlongs the pace had increased to little more than, a canter, Prince Foote-taking the lead, with Pendil second. The race did not commence until the distance had been reached, where Prince JEPoote was half a length from Pendil," who was two lengths ahead of Diabolo. Pendil and Prince Foote then raced hard for home. Pendil looked like beating Prince Foote, but after a hardfought finish Prince Foote won by half a length, a bad third. Time, Bmin 47sec When the horses came in the crowd or* all parts of the course hooted, causing probably the greatest demonstration ever made at the Flemington races. The time was 50sec slower than in any previous Champion Stakes. The general impression was that an attempt was made to beat Prince Foote in a mile race.
