OTTAWA, January 19. '• The Canadian House of Commons, by 110 votes to 23, rejected a motion for the abolition of the Senate. Sir Wilfrid Laurier said the experience of Britain, the wisest country in the : world, had taught that a Second Chamber ! was absolutely necessary. January 20. The Canadian Minister of Labour has introduced a Combines Investigation Act, which provides machinery to investigate trusts which may enhance prices and restrict competition. Any combination affecting the cost of storage, transport of goods, or shipping rates is included.
