FIRE ON A STEAMER.
NAPIER, January i 5. At an early hour this morning amok a was seen issuing from the hold of the steamer Tangaroa, trading to Wairoa, which arrived late last night with a cargo of flax and wool. The brigade were promptly summoned, and a large volume of wats?' was pumped into the vessel, confining the outbreak to a very limited space. When the hatches were removed a bale of wool was found to be burned through, and it appeared that the fire commenced there. The vessel was uninjured, but a quantity of cargo, including travellers’ samples, was seriously damaged by wafer.
